INADVERTENT TEXTILE CONTAMINATION

When we found out that washing clothes at home is inadvertently and unconsciously causing pollution we tried our best to fix it and we worked to find a solution.

ACT RESPONSIBLY, THINK SUSTAINABLY

We started our journey back in 1984 selling fabrics and garments, continuing a centuries-long tradition of working with textiles in our family. We love nature and all it encompasses, including the oceans, mountains and plains, it´s written in our family’s DNA.

SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS FOR BRANDS AND END USERS

We are working on two tools to help solve this problem:
1. Optimal recycle point
of garment.
2. Laundry machine static electricity
microparticle filtering and water recovery.

Changing Habits

MICROPLASTIC LEAKAGE FROM DOMESTIC WASH

grafic_microparticles

DID YOU KNOW THAT WHEN CLOTHES ARE WASHED, SMALL MICROPARTICLES ARE RELEASED INTO THE WATER?

If these small particles are made out of synthetic materials like polyester, polyamide or acrylic, it takes over 20 years for them to degrade and some of them can take 100 years or even longer. Some of the particles are as tiny as 5 microns.

We realised that the microparticles that are released during washing can be described by this graph; the first washes follow a regular path, until a point is reached when the microparticle release becomes exponential. Most of the time this happens without it being noticed. It’s invisible and inadvertent pollution.

THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THIS MICROPARTICLES ARE EITHER:

– Too small to be captured  on a simple/ economic way
– Take many years to get decomposed

WE ARE SEARCHING FOR SOLUTIONS FOR BRANDS
AND END USERS

WORKING IN THE TEXTILE FIELD HAS ALLOWED US TO STUDY THE PROBLEM IN DEPTH AND
DISCOVER SOLUTIONS TO REDUCE THIS MICROPLASTIC POLLUTION.

OPTIMAL RECYCLING POINT OF A GARMENT

The first solution we worked on was to define the recycle point. The perfect moment to recycle our garments.

STATIC ELECTRICITY FILTERING

The second solution was a laundry machine static electricity microparticle filtering and water recovery.
